I participated in a college-level debate competition during my sophomore year, which was organized by the debating society on campus.

I found out about the competition through posters and announcements circulated around the college campus. Being passionate about public speaking and debate, I was immediately intrigued and decided to sign up for the event.

The competition involved teams of two students debating on a series of topics ranging from social issues to political controversies. Each team was assigned a side to argue for or against the motion and had to present their arguments in a structured and persuasive manner.

The prizes for the competition included certificates of participation and recognition for the top-performing teams, as well as the opportunity to represent the college at intercollegiate debate tournaments.

I chose to take part in this competition for several reasons. Firstly, I saw it as an excellent opportunity to hone my public speaking and critical thinking skills in a competitive yet supportive environment. Debating had always been a passion of mine, and I welcomed the chance to engage in intellectual discourse and defend my viewpoints.

Moreover, participating in the competition allowed me to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone. It provided a platform to showcase my abilities and learn from experienced debaters, judges, and mentors.

Additionally, I was motivated by the prospect of representing my college and competing against peers from other institutions. It was a chance to network, build connections, and gain exposure to different debating styles and perspectives.

Overall, I chose to take part in this competition because it aligned with my interests, goals, and aspirations. It offered a unique opportunity for personal and intellectual growth, as well as the chance to contribute to the vibrant debating culture on campus.
