The chart below shows the different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and the proportion of men and women who held them in 1999.
Sample Answer 1
Band 8.5
The bar graph illustrates the percentage of males and females who obtained various post-school qualifications in Australia in 1999. It is evident that men predominantly acquired skilled vocational diplomas, while women were more inclined towards higher education.
In detail, over 80% of the individuals with skilled vocational diplomas were male, a stark contrast to the female representation which was below 20%. This trend reversed in undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas where females constituted approximately 70% and 60%, respectively. Males accounted for around 30% in these categories.
For Bachelor’s degrees, there was an almost equal distribution between both genders, with males slightly edging out females. However, when it came to Master’s degrees, women again took the lead with over 50%, leaving men at just under half.
In summary, while vocational skills were predominantly male-dominated, women showed a stronger inclination towards academic achievements at the undergraduate level and above. This data could be instrumental for educational institutions and policymakers to understand gender dynamics in education during this period.

The chart below shows the different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and the proportion of men and women who held them in 1999.
Sample Answer 2
Band 8.5
The provided bar graph delineates the distribution of various post-school qualifications among Australian males and females in the year 1999. A clear distinction is observed in the preference of educational attainment between both genders.
Males exhibited a pronounced inclination towards skilled vocational diplomas with their representation exceeding 80%. In stark contrast, less than one-fifth of females opted for this qualification. However, a significant shift is observed at undergraduate diploma level where females constitute roughly two-thirds of recipients whereas males represent one-third.
Bachelor's degree shows an equitable gender distribution but a slight male dominance is noted. In contrast to this balanced scenario, postgraduate diploma sees female resurgence with their participation soaring to approximately three-fifths as opposed to two-fifths male involvement.
Master’s degree echoes similar trends as seen in undergraduate diploma statistics; over half are females whilst males are slightly underrepresented.
To sum up, while skilled vocational training was predominantly pursued by males; higher academic laurels including undergraduate diploma onwards saw substantial female dominance indicating diverse educational inclinations rooted perhaps in societal or economic influences prevalent during that era.
