The diagram illustrates how a geothermal power plant produces electricity by using the heat from the Earth’s core. The process involves four main stages: pumping cold water down, heating the water up, generating steam, and converting steam into electricity.

First, cold water is pumped down through an injection well, which reaches 4.5 km deep into the geothermal zone, where the rocks are very hot. Second, the water is heated up by the hot rocks and becomes hot water, which is then pumped up through a production well.

Third, the hot water turns into steam as it reaches the surface, and the steam is used to power a turbine. Fourth, the turbine is connected to a generator, which produces electricity.
