IELTS Writing Task 1

The bar chart compares the number of people who used different modes of transport in England in the years 1985 and 2000. The modes of transport are walking, bicycle, car, local bus, long distance bus, train, taxi, and other. The total number of people who used any mode of transport increased from 4740 in 1985 to 6475 in 2000.

It is clear that car was the most popular mode of transport in both years, accounting for more than two-thirds of the total number of users.

The number of car users rose significantly from 3199 in 1985 to 4806 in 2000. On the other hand, local bus was the least popular mode of transport in both years, with a decline from 429 to 274 users.

The other modes of transport showed mixed trends over the period. Walking and bicycle experienced slight decreases, while long distance bus and taxi had modest increases. Train and other modes of transport saw more noticeable growth, with train users rising from 239 to 366 and other users increasing from 255 to 348.
