IELTS Writing Task 1

The table compares the percentages of various household types in Canada from 1984 to 2020. It shows that the most common household type was couple with dependent children in 1984, but this changed to couple with no children in 2020. It also shows that one-person households and lone parent households increased over the years.

According to the table, in 1984, 52% of the households in Canada were couples with dependent children, followed by 19% of couples with no children, and 6% of one-person households. The remaining household types were couples with non-dependent children (5%), lone parent (4%), and other (14%).

By 2020, the percentage of couples with dependent children dropped to 36%, while the percentage of couples with no children rose to 23%. One-person households also increased to 12%, as well as lone parent households to 8%. The percentage of couples with non-dependent children remained the same at 5%, while the percentage of other households decreased to 16%.

The table clearly indicates that there was a significant shift in the composition of households in Canada from 1984 to 2020, with fewer couples having dependent children and more couples having no children or living alone. This could be attributed to various factors such as demographic changes, social trends, and economic conditions.
