IELTS Writing Task 1

The bar chart compares the electricity production and consumption in billion kWh of ten countries. It is clear that China has the highest levels of both production and consumption, while the other countries show varying degrees of balance or imbalance between the two indicators.

China produces and consumes over 5,000 billion kWh of electricity, which is more than any other country in the chart. The United States is the second-largest consumer of electricity, with nearly 4,000 billion kWh, but its production is much lower, at around 1,000 billion kWh. This suggests that the United States relies heavily on importing electricity from other sources.

Russia and Japan have similar patterns of electricity production and consumption, but at lower levels than China and the United States. Both countries consume slightly more electricity than they produce, indicating a small deficit. Japan’s consumption is slightly higher than Russia’s, while Russia’s production is slightly higher than Japan’s.

The remaining six countries have more balanced ratios of electricity production and consumption. India, Canada, France, Brazil, Germany, and Korea Republic all produce and consume between 500 and 1,000 billion kWh of electricity. Germany stands out as the most efficient country, with almost equal amounts of production and consumption.

A glance at the bar chart reveals the differences in electricity production and consumption in billion kWh among ten countries. China dominates the chart, with the highest figures for both production and consumption. The United States consumes a lot of electricity, but produces much less. Russia and Japan have similar trends, but with lower volumes. The other countries have more equilibrium between production and consumption, with Germany being the most balanced.

China’s electricity production and consumption are both over 5,000 billion kWh, which is far above any other country in the chart. China’s consumption is slightly lower than its production, indicating a surplus of electricity. The United States, on the other hand, has a large gap between its consumption and production. It consumes nearly 4,000 billion kWh of electricity, but only produces around 1,000 billion kWh. This implies that the United States depends on external sources of electricity.

Russia and Japan have comparable levels of electricity production and consumption, but they are much lower than China and the United States. Both countries have a slight mismatch between their consumption and production, with consumption being slightly higher than production. Japan consumes a bit more electricity than Russia, while Russia produces a bit more electricity than Japan.

The rest of the countries have more harmony between their electricity production and consumption. India, Canada, France, Brazil, Germany, and Korea Republic all produce and consume between 500 and 1,000 billion kWh of electricity. Germany is the most balanced country, with almost identical figures for production and consumption.
