IELTS Writing Task 1

The maps illustrate the current layout and a proposed development plan for Islip town centre. The main changes are related to the road system, the shopping area, and the housing facilities.

At present, Islip town centre has a single main road that runs east to west, with shops on the north side and houses on the south side. A school is located at the west end of the road, while a park is situated at the east end. Beyond the shops, there is open countryside to the north.

According to the plan, the main road will be converted into a dual carriageway, which will improve the traffic flow and accessibility of the town centre. A bus station will be built next to some new housing units in the west, which will encourage the use of public transport. The shopping area will be expanded and pedestrianized, creating a more attractive and safe environment for shoppers. A car park will be added next to the shopping centre for convenience. The park and the school will remain unchanged, as well as the existing houses and the countryside.

In summary, the planned development aims to modernize and revitalize Islip town centre by enhancing its infrastructure, commerce, and residential facilities.

The maps compare the current situation and a future plan for the development of Islip town centre. There are three main aspects of the plan: the road network, the shopping centre, and the housing area.
