IELTS Writing Task 1

The bar chart and the table show the export earnings from five different product categories in a country in 2015 and 2016, as well as the percentage change in each category. The units are measured in billion Indian rupees.

Overall, it is clear that all categories except agricultural products experienced a decline in earnings from 2015 to 2016. Petroleum products were the most affected, while textiles were the least. Agricultural products, on the other hand, saw an increase in earnings and became the third highest earning category in 2016.

In 2015, petroleum products were the highest earning category with nearly 80 billion INR, followed by engineered goods with approximately 60 billion INR. Gems and jewelry and textiles earned around 40 billion INR each, while agricultural products lagged behind with just above 30 billion IN

However, in 2016, there was a noticeable decrease in earnings across all sectors except for agricultural products, which increased by 7% to almost 40 billion INR. Petroleum products suffered the most significant drop of 31%, falling to below 60 billion INR. Engineered goods also declined by 17%, reaching around 50 billion INR. Gems and jewelry saw a 25% reduction to just above 30 billion INR, while textiles experienced a slight decrease of 7%, remaining close to its previous year’s earnings.

The given bar chart and table compare the export earnings of five different product categories in a country in two consecutive years, 2015 and 2016. The earnings are expressed in billion Indian rupees (INR), and the table shows the percentage change in each category.

It can be seen that the export earnings of all product categories except agricultural products decreased from 2015 to 2016. The most dramatic change occurred in petroleum products, which had the highest earnings in both years. Agricultural products, however, increased their earnings and moved up in the ranking.

In 2015, petroleum products earned nearly 80 billion INR, which was more than double the earnings of agricultural products, the lowest earning category with just over 30 billion INR. Engineered goods were the second highest earning category with about 60 billion INR, followed by gems and jewelry and textiles, which earned around 40 billion INR each.

In 2016, the earnings of petroleum products plummeted by 31% to less than 60 billion INR, while the earnings of engineered goods also fell by 17% to around 50 billion INR. Gems and jewelry and textiles also faced a decline of 25% and 7% respectively, earning slightly more than 30 billion INR each. Agricultural products, on the contrary, increased their earnings by 7% to nearly 40 billion INR, surpassing gems and jewelry and textiles in the ranking.
