IELTS Writing Task 1

The two maps illustrate how Grange Park has changed from 1920 to the present day. There are several noticeable differences in the layout and features of the park.

In 1920, the park had a symmetrical design, with rose gardens and seating areas on both sides of the central entrance on Arnold Avenue. A stage for musicians was located opposite the entrance, and a fountain was next to it. There was also a glasshouse and a pond for water plants in the park.

Today, the park has a more varied and modern design. The rose gardens and seating areas are still there, but they are not symmetrical anymore. There is a café and a children’s play area near the entrance on Arnold Avenue, and an amphitheatre for concerts has replaced the stage for musicians. The fountain and the pond have been replaced by a single water feature, and the glasshouse is no longer there. There is also an entrance to an underground car park on Eldon Street.

The maps show that Grange Park has undergone significant changes over the years, adapting to the needs and preferences of the visitors.

The maps compare the layout of Grange Park in 1920 and in the present day. It is clear that the park has been redesigned and modernized over the period, with some features being removed and some new ones being added.

In 1920, the park had a balanced and formal design, with two identical rose gardens and seating areas on either side of the main entrance on Arnold Avenue. There was also a stage for musicians directly opposite the entrance, and a fountain nearby. The park also had a glasshouse and a pond for water plants, adding to its diversity and beauty.

In contrast, the present-day park has a more diverse and informal design. The rose gardens and seating areas are still there, but they are not identical anymore. The park now has a café and a children’s play area near the entrance on Arnold Avenue, catering to the needs of the visitors. The stage for musicians has been replaced by an amphitheatre for concerts, offering a different form of entertainment. The fountain and the pond have been merged into one water feature, creating a focal point in the park. The glasshouse has been removed, and there is an entrance to an underground car park on Eldon Street.

The maps demonstrate how Grange Park has changed over time, becoming more modern and varied.
