IELTS Writing Task 1

The diagram illustrates the different phases of the silkworm’s life cycle, from the egg stage to the adult moth stage. The cycle consists of four main stages, each with a different duration and a different food source.

The first stage is the egg stage, which lasts for about 10 days. During this stage, the eggs are laid by the moths and are dormant until they hatch into silkworm larvae.

The second stage is the larva stage, which lasts for 4 to 6 weeks. During this stage, the silkworm larvae feed on mulberry leaves, which provide them with the nutrients they need to grow and develop. The larvae also shed their skin several times as they grow bigger.

The third stage is the cocoon stage, which lasts for 3 to 8 days. During this stage, the silkworm larvae spin silk threads around themselves to form protective cocoons. Inside the cocoons, the larvae undergo a metamorphosis and transform into pupae.

The fourth and final stage is the moth stage, which lasts for 16 days. During this stage, the pupae break out of their cocoons and emerge as adult moths. The moths then mate and lay eggs, completing the cycle and starting a new one.
