IELTS Writing Task 1

The bar graph illustrates how the number of US households in different income brackets changed from 2007 to 2015. It is clear that there was a significant shift in the distribution of household incomes over this period, with more households moving to higher income brackets.

In 2007, the largest number of households (about 32 million) earned less than $25,000 per year, followed by those earning between $25,000 and $49,999 (about 28 million). However, by 2015, these two income brackets saw a considerable decrease in the number of households, with only about 24 million and 22 million respectively.

On the other hand, the number of households earning between $50,000 and $74,999 increased steadily from about 20 million in 2007 to about 26 million in 2015. Similarly, the number of households earning between $75,000 and $99,999 rose from about 15 million to about 18 million over the same period.

The most notable change, however, was observed in the highest income bracket ($100,000 or more), which experienced a consistent and substantial growth throughout the years. The number of households in this category almost doubled from about 12 million in 2007 to about 23 million in 2015, making it the largest income bracket by the end of the period.

In summary, the data reveals a positive trend in household incomes in the US from 2007 to 2015, with a significant increase in the number of households earning more than $50,000 per year and a remarkable rise in the number of affluent households earning more than $100,000 per year.

The bar graph compares the number of US households in five different income brackets in three years: 2007, 2011 and 2015. Overall, it can be seen that there was a marked improvement in the economic situation of many households during this period, as more households moved to higher income brackets and fewer households remained in lower income brackets.

In 2007, the majority of households (about 32 million) earned less than $25,000 per year, making it the most common income bracket. However, by 2015, this income bracket had shrunk by about 8 million households, becoming the second smallest income bracket. A similar trend was observed in the income bracket of $25,000 to $49,999, which also decreased by about 6 million households over the period.

In contrast, the income brackets of $50,000 to $74,999 and $75,000 to $99,999 both increased by about 6 million and 3 million households respectively, indicating an upward mobility of many households in the middle income range. The most significant change, however, occurred in the highest income bracket of $100,000 or more, which saw a dramatic increase of about 11 million households from 2007 to 2015, making it the most prevalent income bracket by the end of the period.

In summary, the data shows a positive development in household incomes in the US from 2007 to 2015, with a remarkable growth in the number of wealthy households earning more than $100,000 per year and a notable decline in the number of poor households earning less than $25,000 per year.
