IELTS Writing Task 1

The pie charts compare the proportion of energy production from five different sources in two years, 1980 and 2000. The total amount of energy produced in each year is also given.

It is clear that there was a significant increase in the total energy production from 100 units in 1980 to 170 units in 2000. Moreover, there was a dramatic change in the distribution of energy sources over the two decades, with nuclear power becoming the dominant source in 2000.

In 1980, coal was the main source of energy production, accounting for half of the total output. Oil and natural gas each contributed 20%, while nuclear power and hydro power made up the remaining 10%. However, by 2000, the situation had changed drastically. Nuclear power surged to 130 units, representing about 76% of the total production. Natural gas remained relatively stable at 36 units, or 21%, while coal dropped to 2 units, or 1%. Oil and hydro power were negligible in 2000.

In summary, the pie charts show a remarkable shift from coal to nuclear power as the primary source of energy production between 1980 and 2000.

The two pie charts illustrate the percentage of energy production from five different sources, namely coal, natural gas, nuclear power, oil, and hydro power, in the years 1980 and 2000. The total units of energy produced in each year are also provided.

Overall, it can be seen that the total energy production increased considerably from 100 units in 1980 to 170 units in 2000. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in the composition of energy sources over the 20-year period, with nuclear power emerging as the most dominant source in 2000.

In 1980, coal was the largest source of energy production, contributing 50% of the total output. Oil and natural gas followed with equal shares of 20% each, while nuclear power and hydro power had the smallest shares of 10% each. However, in 2000, the picture was completely different. Nuclear power rose to 130 units, or approximately 76% of the total production. Natural gas maintained its share at 21%, or 36 units, while coal plummeted to 1%, or 2 units. Oil and hydro power were almost insignificant in 2000.

To sum up, the pie charts demonstrate a remarkable transition from coal to nuclear power as the main source of energy production from 1980 to 2000.
