The graph illustrates the correlation between the initiation of vaccination and the reported cases of whooping cough in Britain from 1940 to 1990. Initially, in the 1940s, there were over 180,000 reported cases of whooping cough. However, with the introduction of vaccination in around 1950, a dramatic decline is observed.

By mid-1955, reported cases plummeted to below 20,000. This significant reduction can be attributed to an increase in vaccine uptake which reached an impressive peak of 81% by around 1965. Unfortunately, a resurgence occurred during the late '60s and early '70s when vaccine uptake declined to a low of about 30%. This resulted in an increase in whooping cough cases.

Remarkably, as vaccine uptake soared to approximately 94% by the late '80s and early '90s due to enhanced public health initiatives and awareness campaigns; a substantial decline was again noted with minimal reported cases.

The graph clearly shows that vaccination had a profound impact on the incidence of whooping cough in Britain, with a strong inverse relationship between vaccine uptake and reported cases.
