IELTS Writing Task 1

The line graph and the bar chart illustrate the trends in international travel for UK and overseas residents from 1979 to 1999 and the most popular destinations for UK tourists respectively. A summary of the main features is presented below.

It is clear from the line graph that both visits abroad by UK residents and visits to the UK by overseas residents increased steadily over the 20-year period. However, the former experienced a more significant growth, rising from around 10 million in 1979 to approximately 50 million in 1999, while the latter increased from nearly 10 million to about 25 million in the same span of time.

The bar chart shows that France was the most favoured country by UK travellers, with over 10 million visitors, followed by Spain with slightly less than this figure. The USA attracted around 5 million tourists, while Greece was the least popular destination, with less than 5 million visitors.

In summary, the data reveals a consistent rise in international travel for both UK and overseas residents in the two decades, with France being the top choice for British tourists.

The given visual data compares the number of visits abroad by UK residents and the number of visits to the UK by overseas residents from 1979 to 1999, as well as the most preferred countries visited by UK residents.

The line graph demonstrates a continuous increase in both visits abroad by UK residents and visits to the UK by overseas residents over the two decades. Visits abroad witnessed a more dramatic growth, starting at around 10 million in 1979 and soaring to nearly 50 million in 1999. In contrast, visits to the UK saw a more moderate rise from almost 10 million to about 25 million over the same period.

The bar chart provides insights into the favourite destinations of UK tourists. France was evidently the most popular country, with over 10 million visitors, followed by Spain with just under this figure. The USA attracted fewer visitors, while Greece was visited by less than half of those who travelled to France.

To sum up, there was a marked increase in international travel for both UK and overseas residents across these two decades. While various global destinations attracted British tourists, France emerged as their favourite.
